About IMA

History

The International Montessori Academy (IMA) was started in a one-room school house in Warren, Michigan in 2004 by Mrs. Supernal De. Mrs. De has an undergraduate degree in History and is a certified Montessori teacher. Based on the philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori, Mrs. De’s dream has always been to provide her students with a world-class education at an affordable tuition rate in an atmosphere filled with love and respect.

Mrs. De taught for a number of years at DeRor Montessori in Oak Park, MI, before opening IMA. Her loving and nurturing personality has kept her in touch with many of her former students who still visit IMA and share their experiences with current students.

Mrs. De’s commitment to excellence in education stems from her passion for learning and teaching. Her commitment and dedication shows in every hug she gives to the students. Her patience, ingenuity, and continuous research and development ensure that her students have the most competitive educational tools. She is constantly adding new programs to the curriculum that will benefit the students.

Mrs. De has been married for 28 years and has one son, who is currently pursuing pre-medicine at Case Western University in Cleveland, Ohio.

Academic Development
Our programs start at age two-and-a-half for preschool and continue through sixth grade. We are open year round for all grades from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. We design the programs for each individual keeping his or her learning ability and aptitude in mind. All students are introduced to the core subject areas such as reading, math, science, geography and history. Our teacher-student ratio is typically 1:10.

We start our reading program at age three and many of our students will read within months of being introduced to the concept. By age four all of our students are reading and comprehending and are able to do double-digit math.

We believe in the limitless potential of our students and their intellectual capacities to learn new concepts. Our integrated curriculum has proven to be successful, as IMA students score a minimum of two grade levels higher on standardized tests. Many students even score as much as four grade levels higher than their actual grade level. The Science Fair held every year bears testimony to the exceptional analytical, logical and presentation skills of our students and their potential. All students starting at age three participate in the Science Fair and are always excited to show off what they have studied and learned.

Holistic Development

In addition to developing the intellectual faculties, IMA endeavors to help children acquire a range of skills through our distinctive curriculum and innovative teaching methods. We are committed to our students’ holistic development.
